The Olleria Cas Canonge, handicraft company number 64, is one of the youngest pottery workshops in Pòrtol. It was started in 1981, on a street that was recently christened with the name of this pottery studio.
Brothers Bartomeu and Bernat Amengual Reynés (master potter craftsman, with certificate num. 117, and master pot craftsman, with certificate num. 116, respectively), the founders of the company, are the descendents of many generations of pottery craftsmen. They learned the trade from their father, Bernat Amengual Serra, who was also the son and grandson of potters.
The clay roasting pots and cooking pots that come out of Cas Canonge's kiln are crafted on the potter's wheel using local red clay from Pòrtal. They are all produced in a traditional manner and the quality is excellent for cooking over wood-burning fires, as well as more modern gas stoves or ceramic hobs. In the pottery shop, in addition to all types of cooking pots, you can also find plates, dinner services and other kitchen utensils, modern objects, such as piggy banks and lamps and decorations for the garden such as washing basins and troughs.
You can find pieces from these potters at the weekly markets in Sineu and Inca, as well as at the yearly Marratxí Pottery Trade Fair. The Amengual brothers also participate in most of the traditional handicraft fairs in Majorca and some in Menorca.
